About Kaley

At the age of 22 I got my Bachelor of Arts from Florida State University in International Affairs and left America for Japan. My intent was to stay there for a year or two, learn the culture, and come back doing some sort of work involving the two countries. Four years and three cities later, I have just now come back to America and my entire world is different.

While living in Japan I first lived in the do-nothing prefecture of Yamaguchi. It's picturesque mountains and friendly people made me love Japan, and after some work complications I was transferred up to the snowy northern island of Hokkaido. For a year I lived in a small, 5,000 person village teaching elementary kids before I was moved to Sapporo, where I would live for over two years.

During my time in Japan I fell in love with travel. I loved learning about new cultures and exploring the world around me. Before moving overseas I had spent much of my free time watching historical documentaries and that's where my passion for different cultures began. America is a country of countries and nearly everyone has roots somewhere else, and I love finding out where certain aspects of American culture come from.

When I'm not traveling or planning to travel, I am usually reading. You can keep track of the books I've read over at Goodreads. I also enjoy cooking, and now that I am back in America with a usable kitchen at my disposal, I plan on taking full advantage of the abundance in the supermarkets. If I can find the time and motivation, I like writing fiction. I've completed NaNoWriMo the last couple of years and will be doing it again this year.

Oh, and I like photography. I have a Nikon D3300 that I take my photos with and I edit them in Photoshop.

As far as social media is concerned, my Instagram is probably the most used. Though I am trying my hardest to get better at Twitter. I also dabble in Pinterest where I collect recipes to try and travel info.
